This is a 2.5 hour walking tour to explore this fascinating ancient city in the company of a guide, an expert in everything to do with Pompeii. You will walk on though cobbled streets to see the ruins of the forum, bathhouse, individual homes and businesses and even a brothel!

You make your own way to the archaeological excavations, an easy journey from Naples to Sorrento on the Circumvesuviana train to Pompei Scavi station. You will meet your guide at the coffee shop in the Hotel Vittorio, not far from the main entrance to the ruins of Pompeii.

From there you will follow your guide into the ancient city of Pompeii. This is truly a journey back in time as your guide transports you to 79 AD and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius that buried the city and its inhabitants but also preserved it for posterity.

You will walk on old Roman cobblestones and marvel at the ruts left by the wagon wheels all those centuries ago. There is a visit to the theatre where lively performances of both tragedies and comedies were once shown. You will also be taken to the thermal bathhouse where the citizens of Pompeii went regularly to bathe, exercise and gossip. Take a peek into the remains of local businesses such as restaurants, bars and shops that would once have sold food and clothing.

The guide will then take you for a walk through the forum, the heart of any ancient Roman city and where you see the ruins of temples and civic buildings. The forum is where the priests and politicians spent their time and where government and religion came together. You can also see the barracks of the Roman Gladiators where they lived and trained. Not to be missed is the rebuilt brothel, one of the most popular attractions in Pompeii.

Don’t forget to wear conformable shoes as you will be walking on lava rock. Also bring a hat to shade you from the sun which nearly always shines on the marvellous ruins of Pompeii!
